This little dwarf species steals the show on livestreams. Every time it’s out, I end up slapping on the macro lens just to show off those gold tones and that beautifully patterned carapace. It’s always a struggle to move on to the next spider when this one’s on screen.
Heavy webber. Expect burrows and web tunnels with multiple entrances. It's fun guessing which exit they’ll pop out of to snatch prey.
Use a terrestrial setup with enough depth to burrow, but leave some open space up top with solid anchor points if you want the full webbing experience. They stay pretty small, growing to about 3", meaning they won't take much space on the spider shelf.
They do tend to be skittish, but you’ll likely catch them happy dancing up on the web tunnels while eating.aqf
Keep substrate on the drier side, but don’t skip the water dish.
Some keepers have experimented with communal setups for this species, similar to the more well known communal option, M. balfouri. This isn’t something we’ve personally attempted, so we’re not making a recommendation either way. If communal housing is something you’re curious about, we suggest doing deeper research first.
