About Us

Are you one of us...? 🕸️

Spider People didn’t start as some lifelong dream or a polished business idea.
It started with a family who was scared of spiders just like everyone else…
until we weren’t.

It began with a simple curiosity about the spiders around our home.
The ones most people ignore or kill. We watched them, appreciated them, learned from them.

Then we found creators like Tarantula Kat, The Tarantula Collective, and Tom's Big Spiders who showed us spiders could be pets.
We were hooked.

Our first kept spider wasn’t bought at a show or shipped in a deli cup.
She was an injured false widow we found in the yard. We named her Sygourney Weaver.

From there, things grew fast. One spider became ten. Ten became a hundred. Feeding nights turned into three day marathons. We'd spend hours texting feeding videos and pictures to the few people in our lives that couldn't say no to the updates. (Thanks Melissa, Sarina, Mo, and Grandma 😂).

Spider People began as a small side project to support a hobby that had already taken over our daily life. We didn’t expect it to turn into anything big, maybe some T-shirts.. It just seemed like the next step.

But then something happened that changed everything.

Our son Kai was diagnosed with FOXP1 syndrome at two years old.
There are fewer than 700 known cases in the world.
There is no clear guide for what life will look like for him.

We only knew one thing. Kai might not fit easily into the world as it is.

That forced a question we couldn't ignore.
How do we make sure he has the support, stability, and family around him that he’ll need for the rest of his life?

The answer was simple. We build that shit ourselves.

Spider People became more than a hobby in that moment. It became purpose.

A way for Kai to have a real career alongside his siblings, Kaylee, Kole, and Kandis, long after Kristin and I are gone.

That's why we pour everything into this.
Every enclosure, every design, every livestream, every decision. It all leads back to the same mission. A world where our kids can work together, grow together, take care of each other, and still be their weird spooky selves.

If you're here, something in this world probably speaks to you too. The spiders, the aesthetic, the weirdness, the honesty, the community.
Whatever it is, welcome.

You're one of us. 🖤
